"LUMEN SAPIENS"
Kapp Elementary School, Norway, 2009
(Kapp Municipality/KORO Public art Norway)

The library and media room at Kapp is without daylight. Light comes only from the adjoining rooms.
The air vent in the middle of the room has been enclosed by four sheets of glass. The profiles of four different chandeliers cut from reflective metal foil are backlit on to white translucent glass that is revealed by the cut. The chandeliers provide direct light, while the mirror foil reflects a smaller, secondary light.
The images have been taken from an old local oil lamp and three chandeliers from well-known Norwegian locations. All evoke knowledge, the Constitution, society and history. The work aims to connect the locale with a larger context and use light to create the feeling of a grand situation for
everyday studies. The four texts/charts are part of the installation.
