Karagoes is the name of a kind of Turkish shadow theatre from the 1900s. Small, flat and translucent figures were backlit, their shadows being projected on a canvas. The distance to the screen enlarged the small shapes to full human size. This was a way to talk about things in public that elsewhere were forbidden in Turkey at the time. There was a small orchestra located behind the canvas.
"Karagoes" is a work for several rooms. The rooms and the transition between them represent chosen options and specific focal points. Your eye switches focus, you can look out of the window, see the glass, or catch a sight of yourself as a mirror-image. You choose your position and choose again.
Each room can be seen individually.
